DTN COMMENTS:  Country trade is quiet this afternoon with both buyers and 
sellers stunned by imploding cattle futures.  The board struggled through 
most of the morning with moderate losses, but fund selling and long 
liquidation accelerated in the last hour of business.  Feeder contracts were 
especially hit hard with most contracts losing at least 200 points.  
Needless to say, such bearish confusion had momentarily scrambled asking 
prices.  New showlists are mixed, larger in the South and smaller in the 
North.  Significant trade volume may now be delayed until Thursday or 
Friday.  

Today's kill totaled 131,000 head, 1,000 above last week, and 2,000 more 
than a year ago.  Monday's holiday slaughter was 3,000.  Note that 
Saturday's kill was revised up to 23,000, bringing last weeks total to 
672,000 head.  Beef cutouts are expected to close mixed, with light to 
moderate box movement.
